PREPARATION OF BANGA SOUP

How To Prepare Bana Soup

Banga soup is a meal rich in protein and prepared by fresh palm kernel fruit. It is widely consumed by the Igbos in the eastern part of Nigeria.

Ingredients needed for the soup

  • Fresh palm kernel
  • Ginger
  • Garlic
  • Scent leave
  • Other condiments such as pepper, onions, seasoning Maggi
  • Meat/fish

Method of preparation

Step1: properly boil your palm kernel until some breakage is noticed

Step 2: pound thoroughly carefully separating the kernel from the chaff and sieve properly using hot water. Ensure the oil is contained in the sieved water and pour out the chaff and the kernel extracted. Those had become unwanted product at the moment.

Step 3: pour the sieved water mixed with the oil into a pot and properly heat until the reddish nature of the oil is noticed, on seeing this we are sure the oil is ready to be consumed.

Step 4: add your condiments, already cooked meat, smoked fish, your gingers and garlic. Ensure these condiments are added in the right proportion to avoid adding excess. Allow to boil for sometimes and add your scent leaves and curry. Taste to ensure all ingredients are added in good order. If yes then your banga soup is ready for consumption.

This soup is eaten with either rice of fofo.
